The story revolves around Kazunari Usa, a freshmen high school student, who has wanted to live in peace and comfort. One day, he finally gets to enjoy living on his own at the Kawai Complex, a boarding house that serves delicious meals for the residents. Surprisingly, he lives in the same dormitory as Ritsu Kawai, his ultimate crush in school. Meanwhile, he meets other residents which make his whole life a total different – he never finds his daily life boring.
The anime is completely a slice of life series as you’ll take a glance on the daily lives of different types of people living under the same roof – Shirosaki, the masochist and perverted guy; Sayaka, a working woman who doesn’t have a luck in her love life; Sumiko, a cute college student who loves to cause trouble. Of course, these descriptions are depicted to the most comical way. You might find them weird, psychotic, but you won’t forgive yourself from laughing out loud as you’ll eventually realize that they are the best remedy for your stressful life. Everything in the story is just blended with great fun and refreshing views about love, friendship and lots about daily lives of these eccentric people. There could be bitterness with those concepts but characters still try to experience the most exciting part of life. I really find them funny, especially when Mayumi, including Sayaka and the perverted Shirosaki, teases Usa regarding his sexual delusions which is, in fact, creates the humor throughout the story.
Though the series is loaded with lots of comedic events, it also tries to bring upon a romantic involvement between Usa and Ritsu. Their relationship doesn’t seem to progress like a fairy tale ending, but it’s totally cute how Ritsu shows her soft side towards Usa, and later on, realizes she’s in love with him. Her innocence towards romance is quite fun to watch and you’ll never know when Usa gets the most effective strategy to catch her until such time, without even realizing, trust between them has been built like a sudden spark. I really find Ritsu as an amazing girl despite the fact she doesn’t often express herself. She lives with her books in the most enthusiastic way and that’s another thing I like about her. Her passion and dedication towards her hobby supports the fact that nothing can stop you from doing what you want and for being who you are. It’s just a matter of living in your own way, really.
Characters are well-portrayed as the series doesn’t only focus on main lead. Other characters are given enough time on screen to express their thoughts. Their lively interaction with each other is enough to show that no single character would be neglected. Every character in the story is tasked to bring the most hilarious things in the world, and it’s up to you if you take their sense of humor seriously.
Brain’s Base studio makes another vibrant anime that easily attracts the viewers with its pretty decent and well-done animation. If you did enjoy the appealing scheme of those titles of the same studio like Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, etc., then you’ll easily be captivated by the ambiance of the anime.
Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou is simply an entertaining series. I don’t find the plot very satisfactory neither consider it as one of the highly recommended romantic comedy anime, but one thing is for sure, I enjoyed watching the whole thing.
